Now this is exciting news !!! An Arizona-based startup called Eggcyte has began a Kickstarter project to take control of your private data, and therefore not have you relying on cloud storage or social networking sites. With companies mining and selling off your personal data to the highest bidder, the egg aims to give you back the control and the ownership of YOUR data. The personal web server is called “The Egg”, as it ‘kinda’ looks like one, and runs Tizen on Intel Atom hardware with a 2.4-inch touchscreen, 12 hour battery and storage capacity of 64Gb, 128Gb or 256Gb. The webserver can be configured for public or private access.

As a kickstarter project you can get involved with packages starting at $199 for the 64GB version up to November 6, with devices expected to ship in July 2015. Eggcyte’s Egg, was developed by former Intel engineers, DivX, and others. The Egg comes in four different colours: Dark Stone, Egg Shell, Robin Solid and Robin Speckle. This is possibly the first non-samsung product that we have seen that will run the Tizen OS (excluding Tizen IVI of course).

Under the hood the Egg runs an undisclosed version of the Tizen OS on a 2GHz Intel Atom system-on-chip (SoC), possibly a 22nm “Bay Trail”, 1GB of RAM which is ample for the type of services this device will offer and 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB of eMMC storage, 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth 4.0, 910mAh 4.35V battery that can last up to 12 hours, and an accelerometer, compass, and ambient light sensor. You also get a speaker and a haptic vibrator for notifications.
