Huawei CEO Richard Yu (余承东) officially announced that the company will enter the era of 64-bit chipsets this year. Huawei is one of the members of Tizen Association  and it is planning to launch quad-core processors that are to based on the ARM Cortex A-57 but also on 8-core processors that are said to incorporatethe ARM Cortex-A57 and Cortex A-53/, which will use ARM’s well known big.LITTLE architecture.

On his personal Weibo accounts, Richard Yu wrote some posts that describes the development of some of the Hi-Silicon processors. The first processor is a quad-core chip based on ARM Cortex-A9 with 28nm processing, while the second processor is octa-core chip that looks like a combination of the ARM Cortex-A15 and Cortex-A7. Both processors have  GSM / WCDMA / TD-SCDMA / TD-LTE and FDD-LTE modem capabilities.

In other status updates, Richard Yu said Huawei will also announce the first 64-bit chip made by his company this year. For 64-bit mobile applications processors Huawei might create the octa-core chip by using a combination of two quad-core chips, each with an ARM Cortex-A57 and Cortex A-53. These too can be labeled as an Hisilicon.

Richard Yu also confirmed that in addition to producing its own chips, Huawei will also use chips from MediaTek and Qualcomm. Rumors say that Huawei is likely to show these processors on a new smartphone in February at the 2014 MWC 2014 in Barcelona.
